Details of New $650K Arabic Novel Prize Revealed

In January, the Katara Cultural Village announced its intention to launch a new big-money Arabic novel prize. Now, the prize’s web presence has launched (http://www.kataranovels.com/ @kataranovels), revealing details of the $650,000 prize:

1902079_561472430627529_891408383_nAccording to The Peninsula QatarKatara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim said at the website launch: “This prize is the first of its kind which links novel, drama and translation, and aims to introduce excellent Arab novels to the world, honour Arab novelists and encourage them toward creativity and excellence.”

What’s different about the prize is not just the big purse — the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) awards a total of $100,000 — but that the winning novel “will be translated into a drama.”
